Where: Lyons Bike Park in Bohn Park

When: Sunday June 2, 2013  4 pm – 6pm

Description:

The art of acceleration without pedaling, put on by PlusSizeBMX and Freelap Timing.  Pump track racing is the hottest thing to sweep the riding world, and Lyons is leading the way. Riders of all levels will race on the Lyons Dirt Jump Park’s very own pump track. Expect to ride a few timed laps by yourself then race head to head for the glory!

A pump track is a continuous loop of rollers and berms that you can ride without pedaling. It’s amazing how fast you can go by “pumping” the terrain. The Lyons track is easy to ride — but tricky to ride fast!

Pump tracks develop skills, improve fitness and are the funnest things ever. All sorts of riders — dirt-jumping groms to cross-country moms — love riding pump tracks. If you haven’t tried it, come on out. If you have ridden some pump, come show us what you’ve got!

Format:

Everyone will get at least a seeding run and a race run. For each run, you’ll ride one lap to gain speed, then rip two laps for time. After the seeding runs, we’ll rank everyone according to time, then everyone will rider their race runs, fastest folks going last. This will determine the top riders.
Now it gets interesting. After the race runs, the top two riders from each class will start at opposite ends of the track, and they will ride until someone gets caught. This is called a pursuit, and it’s as fun to watch as it is hard to race. Whoever does the catching is the class champion. Sweet!
