Where: Apple Valley Bridge to Black Bear Hole (Class 2-3-)
When: SATURDAY JUNE 1 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
The Lyons Outdoor Games will again host a Downriver Race as part of our kayak events this year. This year’s race should be bigger and more exciting given that the Nationals for the Downriver Racing community is being hosted in Colorado the last weekend of June this year. Hopefully this will draw a greater field of competitors to Lyons and showcase the LOG for the future.
This year’s race will again be held on the North Saint Vrain River, with the start line being at the upper Apple Valley Bridge and finishing at the Black Bear Hole. Classes will be divided up into long boats over 9 feet, and short boats 9 feet and under, and junior and senior classes. Further class divisions, such as male and female, will depend on the number of entries we get; a minimum of 3 entries will be required for each individual class.
All competitors will be required to wear a helmet, pfd, and remember that the water temp will be cold. All boats will be required to have appropriate floatation bags in the boats during the event. In addition to safety boaters/staff in objective hazard areas, self rescue skills are expected on this 6 mile stretch of class 2-3- river. The Lyons Outdoor Games are an American Canoe Association event, and all competitors are required to be ACA members or pay an additional $5.00 fee with their entry to meet ACA insurance requirements.
The race meeting is mandatory. Bib numbers and final instructions will be issued at the race meeting. Registration will only be available onsite at Bohn Park and will close at 9 AM on June 9. The safety meeting will start at 9 AM in Bohn Park right next to the Registration/Info tent. Limited parking is available at the put in for those wishing to drive themselves to the start. All the racers are encouraged to join us for the Pro Freestyle Finals, and to stay and enjoy the day with us in Lyons.
