As part of our ongoing effort to promote the sport of kayaking the Lyons Outdoor Games, in cooperation with Confluence Kayaks, is offering beginner and basic level instructional clinics during this year’s outdoor games. For beginners wishing to try the sport of kayaking for the first time Confluence will have demo boats and instructors available all day Saturday at the Lyons Valley River Park Ponds for people to drop by and experiment with this fun sport. There will be traditional kayaks as well as inflatable boats, and stand up paddle boards available to try.
A Basic Play Boating/Freestyle clinic will be held for those boaters who are already kayaking, but who want to expand their play boating skills. This clinic will focus on surfing the hole, spins, cartwheels, and other basic freestyle maneuvers. This will be a great chance for those wanting to take up the exciting aspect of freestyle kayaking as well as those play boaters wanting to improve their game and polish their basic skills. Boaters attending this clinic will need to have all of their own gear, although some demo boats will be available for those wishing to try something new.
A basic river running clinic will be held for those already kayaking, but who want to improve on their river running skills so as to move up to the next level of river running. This clinic will focus on basic skills including reading the water, running drops, catching eddies, “boofing”, and other basic skills to make running a river fun and exciting. Boaters attending this clinic will need to have all of their own gear, although some demo boats will be available for those wishing to try something new.
All instruction will be done by the experienced, certified instructors from Confluence Kayaks of Denver, which is the premier kayak store and training headquarters in the Denver area.
